Gadai was quite young when his father died, and he was raised under the loving care of his mother, Chandramani devi, and his elder brother, Ram Kumar. Ram Kumar was thirty one years older than Gadai. Gadai was not satisfied by merely renouncing mentally whatever obstructed his path to God realization. First he gave up those gross objects, keeping himself as far away from them as possible. 0
Now he couldn’t see the stone image at all. In it's place was the living mother. He would put his hands near the mother's nostrils and felt that she was actually breathing. At night he watched carefully but in the lamp light he couldn’t see her shadow on the wall. (GM)

Seeing him loath to eat, she herself ate it and brought it near to his mouth saying not to feel revulsion . Thakur perceived the terrible form of Jagadamba, went into bhava and ate it as she put it in his mouth (GM)

The day Thakur went into Samadhi seeing the coupling of a man and a woman, Bhairavi told him that he is now adept in the Anand Asana and is established in the Divya bhava, this is the final Sadhana of Vira Bhava. After a few days of this he offered a Bhairavi five Sika and with her help arranged Kulagar Puja in the Nat mandir of Kaliwadi during the day time in presence of every one and concluded the Virabhava Sadhana (GM)

During the Sadhana Thakur saw all women as mother as well couldn't drank a drop of alcohol. Even by listening of Karana he would attain the Jagat Karana and lose into the Samadhi and by hearing the word Yoni he would stirred by the Jagat Yoni and went into the Samadhi (GM)

Through out the ages in the name of Vira bhava Sadhana, the sadhakas are using women and are convinced that no success can be attained without doing this. By making Thakur, who ever has the Matri bhava to all women, undergo the vira bhava Sadhana the mother must have a deep meaning (GM)
0
The Tantras have three categories of Sadhana for three different types of Sadhakas- Pashu bhava, Vira bhava, and Divya bhava. Only by performing Sadhana with austere self control can a Sadhaka attain success. Thakur's continuous Matri bhava showed the way how Tantra Sadhana can be successfully completed (GM)
0
Also by undergoing all type of Sadhanas Thakur was able later to guide all type of aspirants who came to him (GM)

As he had listened that sometimes the mother can take the form of jackal and dog is the vehicle of Bhairava, Thakur would eat their left over food with devotion without any disgust (GM)

Thakur had achieved the Anima etc powers and on the advice of Hriday, had inquired the mother on their use. Mother showed him an old prostitute who came and sat with her back to Thakur, pull up her sari and excreted thus showing him the powers are like the excretions of the old prostitute (GM)

on expressing his desire to see the Mohini form of the mother, he saw a tremendously beautiful woman rising up from the Ganga and coming towards the Panchavati, the beauty was dropping from her body and vaporizing. She gave birth to a beautiful baby, nurse him lovingly and after a while she turned into the terrible form of Kali, ate the baby and returned to the Ganga (GM)

Also during this time he saw innumerable visions of Bhairava and other gods and goddesses, enumerating them all is nearly impossible (GM)

He saw that many would come to him to gain the spiritual enlightenment (GM)

From now on for a few years his beauty had increased so much that every where people would keep looking at him. It went away after he requested the mother frequently to hide the external beauty as he wanted to have only the internal one (GM)

At around the time of Annameru, Thakur's mother Chandra devi came to live at Dakshineshwar and stayed there till her death twelve years later and never returned to Kamarpukur again (GM)

After the Tantra Sadhana Thakur was attracted to the Vaishnava Sadhana. There are a few reasons for that. First, Bhairavi herself was an adept in Vaishnava Pancha Bhava and was natural for her to encourage him to practice the same. Second, it was quite popular around Kamarpukur so he was ideally placed to feel reverence for this. Third and the most important, there was a fascinating harmony of man and woman's nature in him (GM)
0
Influenced by one he would appear to be courageous like a lion, investigative and tough and by another he would assess the world with the warm heart of a woman. Influenced by the later he felt strongly attracted to some things and to some other there would be some repulsion. Even when he could easily suffer a great deal in Bhava out of it he would become helpless like others (GM)
0
Before his Vatsalya bhava Sadhana, he had already successfully completed Dasya, Shanta and Sakhya bhava Sadhana during his first period of Sadhana. Also around this time he used to fan the mother in the Sakhi Bhava. During the winter Durga Puja he used to go for Darshana in the clothes of a woman surrounded by the women of Mathur's family. Possessed by the Bhava of the woman, sometimes he would completely forgot that he is a man (GM)

Of the many sadhus who arrived at this time there, one was Jatadhari - a Ramait Sadhu. He worshipped the image of child Ram Chandra. Thus after meeting Jatadhari when he saw the child Rama, his heart filled with the Madhur bhava. He would spend a lot of time with Jatadhari; the child would try to entice him with his sweet and childish tricks, would eagerly wait for him when he was not there and would try to go with him whenever he went. On the auspicious day, Tota asked him to perform the shraddha and other rites to propitiate his departed ancestors. Then he instructed him to offer pindas (rice balls) for the satisfaction of his own soul, according to the tradition. From the moment of initiation into Sanyasa, an aspirant completely renounces the desire for and right to attain all worlds, such as bhuh (earth), bhuvah (ethereal region), swah (heaven), and so on. That is why the scriptures require an aspirant to offer pinda to his own spirit before undertaking Sanyasa. (*)

As the time of Jatadhari's arrival, Thakur was in the bhava of the woman and on envisioning Rama's sweet child form, was filled with the Vatsalya bhava. At the end of the night the auspicious Brahma muhurta (48 minutes before sunrise) arrived. Guru and disciple entered the hut. After they completed the preliminary rituals, they ignited the homa fire. The guru recited the mantras; he instructed the disciple to follow them attentively and repeat them while pouring oblations into the homa fire. Then the viraja homa began. It was concluded with these vows: "At this moment I give up the desire for earth, heaven, and other worlds. I promise all beings of the world that they have nothing to fear from me." he then offered his tuft of hair and sacred thread into the fire as oblations, according to scriptural injunctions. Thakur received a loincloth, an ochre robe, and a name from his guru (GM)

After the initiation Tota puri now encouraged Thakur to become established in Brahman by following the famous vedantic method of "neti, neti". He was determined to transmit his whole life's spiritual experiences to him, so that he could be rapidly absorbed into the Advaita. He asked him to withdraw his mind from all objects and dive into the Atman (GM)
0
Attracted by any bhava, Thakur would immediately apply his whole mind to accomplish its highest aim. It may be said that one shouldn't be driven by any and every emotion which arises in one's mind, as negative emotions may take one to the brink of destruction. But Thakur's mind was to such an extent surrender to the mother that no negative emotion ever raised its head in his mind. (GM)
1864
0
But despite all his efforts, during meditation he couldn’t cross the realm of name and form and brought his mind to the unconditioned state. He had no difficulty in withdrawing his mind from all objects except one: the mother. For more that three days this happened again and again. He almost lose his hope of reaching nirvikalpa Samadhi. He told Tota that he couldn’t do it. (GM)

With total surrender to the universal will, avatars become so much fearless and selfless that even if they come to know about persons and actions which would bring their death, they would embrace them willingly. (GM)

Irritated Tota replied "Why it cant be done? It must be done!" Then he took a bit of broken glass and struck its needle sharp point between his eyebrows and said, "Fix the mind here" Thakur sat down to meditate again, firmly determined. As soon as the form of divine mother appeared in his mind, he used his discrimination as a sword of knowledge and with it mentally cut that form in two. Then all distinctions disappeared from his mind, and it swiftly soared beyond the realm of name and form. He lost himself into Samadhi (GM)
0
When we see apparently contradictory tendencies of intense activity and total dependence on the divine we have to conclude that the intense activity is born of the divine will. Thus their minds are so highly purified that only positive emotions and actions will arise in them. (GM)

He stayed in Nirvikalpa Samadhi for three days. Then Tota puri with the sound Hari OM brought his mind down (GM)

with this type of mind avatars become Satya-Sankalpa. If Thakur couldn't eat something, the food would prove on examination to be impured some how. If he couldn't speak about the God to some one, he/she prove to be ineligible for that subject. If he perceived that a person will advance far or little in spiritual life, later would really advance that further only. (GM)

It is difficult to understand the history of the Sadhaka's life for uninitiated. There are no great events or activities which can be detected and admired from the outside (GM)
0
There is only Sadhaka's consciousness, Sanskaras of innumerable lives within it and his eternal battle against them to reach the highest aim (GM)
0
To dive in the depths of his own consciousness, to attain the deeper and subtler bhavas and ultimately arriving at the core of his being to attain the source of all bhavas and consciousness, the infinite, the one without the second. (GM)
0
The mind of the Sadhaka will come down again and again will go up till all the Sanskaras are destroyed completely. But there are a few whose normal state of mind is the Samadhi and who for the benefit of the people keep their mind forcefully down by having some insignificant desire. T belonged to this category. (GM)
0
The state which the Buddha had described as "Shunya" is indicated as "Purna" by the seers. This Advaita state is called as beyond Bhava by the Vedanta because after being established in it, the Sadhaka's mind will go beyond the states of Bhava like the Lila of the God. Thus the realization which is gained by the Pancha bhava, is different from the one attained by the Advaita. (GM)
0
The way we are emotionally attached to our father, mother, brothers and sisters, friends, teachers etc., Pancha bhava are the holy representation of them. As we are familiar with the emotions, the bhava Sadhana becomes easy for us. The activity resulting from emotions entangles us in the sansara but the activities arising from the Pancha bhava will only lead us further towards the god (GM)
0
If we analyze the lives of the sadhakas, we find that love is the essence of the bhava Sadhana and the love is towards any personified form of the god. As long as Advaita state is not attained, we are capable of imagining the god only in some personified form (GM)
0
Once we love the god with any bhava we forget it's divine powers and accept it's personified form as near and dear to us. The more a bhava can bring us near to it, the more that bhava is considered greater. As Madhur bhava can do this the best, it is considered as the greatest one (GM)
0
At the apex of the bhava Sadhana, the Sadhaka forgets himself and believes himself to be the one towards whom his bhava was directed, like gopis believing themselves to be Krishna and finally attains Advaita (GM)
0
Madhur bhava, also called Mahabhava, is the gift of Chaitanya and Vaishnava acharyas. Only Krishna is the Purush and the whole creation is Prakriti. If we worship him as our husband, we can attain freedom. This is the essence of the Madhur bhava propagated by Chaitanya. (GM)
0
The Madhur bhava contains all the other bhavas. Radha is the personified Mahabhava and gopis personify each of the other bhavas. Thus first mimicking the gopis and then the Radha, the Sadhaka goes from sub bhavas to the Mahabhava and forgetting himself completely like her, merges himself completely in Krishna (GM)
0
According the devotional scriptures, Radha, the goddess of Vrindavan, alone experienced the culmination of true transcendental love, shunning shame, fear hatred etc. so without her grace and attaining the same kind of pure and lust free love, it is impossible for anyone in this world to have the vision of Krishna and culmination of Madhur bhava (GM)
0
For a long time the Divine glory of Radha's love was forgotten. In order to demonstrate this again Krishna had to reincarnate as Gauranga and unite Himself with Radha in one body (GM)

There was a wonderful coexistence of male and female temperament in him and under the influence of woman's attire his feminine traits were aroused. His movements, speech, smile, glance, gestures and other actions as well as his thoughts became completely feminine. Later on his mimicry of women was so perfect, women used to be amazed by that (GM)

During this time, he sometime went to Rasmani's Janbazar residence and lived as a woman with the ladies of Mathur's family. The ladies already knew his stainless pure character and adored him as a god. Now they were charmed by his womanly conduct and behavior and his natural affection and service. They were so convinced by his behavior that they considered him to be one of themselves and abandoned their bashfulness and hesitation in fromt of him. When the husband of any of Mathur's daughters visited the house, Thakur would adorn the girl with ornaments and arrange her hair with his own hands. Behaving as though he were an older and more experienced woman friend, he would show her how she should conduct herself and how to entertain her husband. (GM)

Every morning he would take a basket and pick flowers. At that time he always took his left foot forward first as a woman does. Brahmani often mistook him for Radha at that time. He would make beautiful garlands and decorate the images of Radha and of Krishna. Sometimes he adorned the image of the Mother and prayed piteously to her, as did the gopis to the goddess Katyayani, begging her to give him Krishna as his spiritual husband (GM)

0
After he had performed worship and service of the Mother, he would visit the Radha-Govind temple. He then wholeheartedly served Radha and Krishna and prayed intensely to have Krihsna as his beloved. That fervent prayer in his heart never ceased at any time either day or night. Thus days and months passed but neither despondecny nor scepticism could disturb his heartfelt expectation. Gradually his prayer became bitter wailing and his eager desire turned into a mad frenzy and restlessness; as a result he forgot to eat or sleep. How great was his pain of separation! When a lover cherishes a boundless desire to be always uinited with his or her beloved, and this desire is obstructed from all directions, that lover's heart is crushed and the body is broken. Such was his condition. Not only did the pand of separation manifest as painful mental agony, but the terrible burning sensation that he had experienced all over his body in the earlier stage of sadhanan reappered. Sometimes drops of blood oozed from the pores of his body because of this fierce pain of separation from Krishna. At times the joints of his body seemed to become loose or almost dislocated. Owing to the intensity of his anguish, his senses sometimes stopped functioning and he looked like a corpse (GM)

He was soon blessed with the vision of Radha. Her form merged into him like the forms of other gods and goddesses whose visions he had. Her complexion was light yellow like the stamens of the Nagakeshara flower. For some time following the vision he felt that he was Radha. This happened as a result of deep meditation on Radha's form and character. He also completely lost his sense of individuality. (GM)

After that vision all signs of Mahabhava- the simultanious manifestation of 19 kinds of bhava, that resulted from the culmination of Madhur bhava manifested in him as they had in Radha and Gauranga. Thakur fancied that if he were born as a woman, he could worship and attain Krishna like the gopies. He would be a beautiful young widow with ling hair, born in a brahmin family, knowing none other than Krishna as husband. There would be an elderly woman with him who served as a guardian, a cow that he would milk himself and a spinning wheel. After fininshing the household work for the day, he would sing songs about Krishna while spinning wheel. Then in the evening he would make sweets from the milk of that cow and cry piteously to feed the sweets to Krishna with his own hands. Pleased, Krishna would suddenly appear as a cowherd boy and eat them; thus he would visit daily without anyone knowing. (GM)

At this time Thakur was fully established in Kama kanchana tyaga, Ihamutrafalabhoga viram, shama-damadi shata sampati, mumukshatva and Ishwara nirbharata (GM)

Even after Thakur realized the god as a near and dear one and perfecting in the bhava sadhana and samadhi, he still continued his sadhana to attain the highest Advaita state.
