Analysis
The immediate results of the Parliament were mixed. Perhaps it is correct to say that the bigots, several of whom at once took to frenzied sermon giving, became more bigoted, for their backs had been pressed to the wall, and that the liberal minded became more liberal, for they were now confirmed in their views, and that this latter outcome was undoubtedly the more important and enduring. Other leading newspapers of the United States, such as the Rutherford American, the Press of America, the Interior Chicago, and the Chicago Tribune, were eloquent about Swami Vivekananda. Wellknown periodicals quoted his talks in full. The Review of Reviews described his address as "noble and sublime”. And the Critic of New York spoke of him as "an orator by Divine right". Similar accounts of the Swami's triumph appeared in other papers too numerous to quote here. (LSV 1.428)

Aside from his talks at the Scientific Section and at other auxiliary sessions, and aside from his brief, extemporaneous, and history making remarks, Swamiji gave four talks during the course of the Parliament: his opening and closing addresses, his paper on Hinduism, and his short talk on Buddhism.* *All four of these talks can be found in volume one of the Complete Works.
