The Canadian Pacific Railway's daily "Atlantic Express" had left hours earlier for points east, and thus Swamiji, together with his fellow eastbound travelers, had, perforce, to spend the night in Vancouver, then a ramshackle frontier town, newly, but not well, built on the ashes of a fire that had swept it out of existence in 1886.
