The incident occurred today made Shri Ramakrishna the fabled Wish fulfilling Tree (Kalpataru) and granted devotees spiritual realizations according to their path and capacity. In memory of this incident, Kalpataru day is celebrated every year on January 1 at the kashipur garden and elsewhere. (LSV 1.160)

One day (January 4, 1886) the Master asked Naren, "Won't you continue your college studies?" With emotion the latter replied, "Sir, I shall feel greatly relieved if I find some medicine that will make me forget all I have studied." (LSV 1.161)
