Dr. Barrows returned to US after three months of lecture tour. He preached most bigoted form of Christianity. While lecturing in Calcutta, Madras, poona etc he made no secret of his antipathy to swamiji. After reaching US Barrows started malicising Swamiji, accusing him of defaming american women, bragging his following and unjustified influence in america etc. News papers attacked him on this score. Some american missions, Brahmos, theosophists, Buddhists etc. began to be increasingly vocal in their criticisms of a few hard but true remarks of Swamiji. Swamiji remain indifferent to Barrows and others rantings and replied to a few close american friends in letters (LSV 2.)
