Congress of the History of religions held during september 3 to 8, at the Sorbonne in connection with the Paris exposition. It was concerned exculusively with scholarly matters of different doctrines or beliefs, such as had taken place so fervently at Chicago was not allowed (*)

Pere Hyacinthe (Loyson) , a former carmelite monk and catholic priest, was one of Swamiji's greatest intimates during his stay in France. Duke of Richeliu was another one who become greatly attached to him. Others who were attracted by him were Hiram Maxim, of gun fame, Sarah Bernhardt, a celebrated actress, Madame Calve etc (LSV 2.)

(First week) moved with M. Jules Bois, a well known writer and a student of comparative religion. Swamiji hoped that by living alone with Bois, who spoke nothing but french, he might thereby more proficient in french. Bois' apartment remained his head quarters in Paris, until he left for his European tour (LSV 2.)
